CORRUPTION
Donald Dede - Stories about CORRUPTION
I don’t want to drink from their water This is a disease if you like, the Nigerian way of life is a disease that affects anyone that drinks from its fountain of corruption. It is almost impossible not to drink from this fountain of corruption that encompasses all that drinks from it.
Everything looks good from the outside. Nigeria is the giant of Africa they say until you get into the so-called giant country then you realise that it is only hollow. The country is in tatters nothing works, I mean nothing works. From your arrival you soon discover that you are in a backward country; a country that has no pride in its self or its citizens. This is a country that has no sewage system, everyone provides their own it’s called suck away. The gutters are open sewers. It turns your stomach just looking at it and the smell unbearable. No one seems to be bothered by the sight or the smell, it leaves one wondering if the people are nose blind. There are no public water supplies you are expected to provide your own water by means of bore holes unfortunately the water is not good enough to drink, as a result people now buy drinking water which is also affected by fakery. This is the story of the man in the mountain who wouldn’t drink the village water because it made the people mad but eventually had to drink it to be like them and now he doesn’t see his madness anymore now that he is mad himself. This is what it is like in Nigeria, you either drink from the water of corruption or you will find yourself alone and penniless. This has happened to some of the people who have tried to stem the tide of corruption and find themselves in a bigger mess than they ever thought was possible. This is something that only a determined and effective government can do. It is not all doom and gloom, after all it is a country with lots of resources both natural and intellectual. One day sometime in the future Nigerians far and wide across the world will be invited back home to take part in the country’s reconstruction.
Corruption is Nigeria's biggest enemy, solve it and the country will be transformed overnight. In Nigeria you don't go to jail for stealing public money, in fact you get praises and songs written about you of how great you are in acquiring such wealth. Corruption is everywhere you look from the politicians to the defence establishments and corporations.
This is a country with no soul, God has abandoned it for now. Nigeria eats itself from within and Nigerians are busy beautifying other countries rather than itself. Countries like Qatar and Ghana where Nigerians have poured a lot of their ill-gotten money into making these countries beautiful. In my opinion Nigeria is the laughing stock of the continent. It likes to call itself the giant of Africa while in fact it is the giant of nothing. How a country with so much riches and potential ends up like this beggars belief. There are some people who say that it took the west hundreds of years to accomplish what they have achieved. I say bollocks it is just an excuse to continuously impoverish the country and these opinions should not be entertained for one single second. These are ideas of very wicked and selfish people or people who have no clue of what they are talking about.
To give an example of this in Lagos state there are roads so bad the state government wants to fix it, but the Federal government refuses the State government to do it. According to them it is a Federal road, which should be maintained by the Federal government .
Agbara is an industrial zone and as such you expect excellent roads to allow for safe delivery of goods. There are no good functioning roads in Agbara. When it rains it is impossible to drive through, even pedestrians find it difficult to negotiate these roads.
This area generates a lot of income for the government, and it is not that they are unable to give these companies a decent road to allow their businesses to flourish, but they are unwilling to do so. In Agbara one local businessman tried to give the neighbourhood better roads. He brought all the equipment and workers in to make the road better, but instead of the government praising this man he was taken to court in Abuja for interfering with government road. He was eventually cleared but up till today the road remains undone, not tarred, just plain earth. Even benevolent citizens like the man just mentioned with money who want to do something good are not allowed to do so because once the road is done then there will no need to budget for that road again. This means there will be no more backshish for anyone. This happens all over Nigeria for any project not completed the government keeps on pouring money in, but the job is never completed because to finish the project means there will be no more money coming in for these greedy and corrupt people to put into their private bank accounts.
In Agbara not some days but everyday you will see heavily laden lorries turned over with all their contents strewn all over the road because of the conditions of the road and this in turn causes a lot of traffic jams.

"Nigeria is not a zoo, says the Daily Post.
There might be some issues, same as many countries worldwide, but Africa’s biggest nation is strong, united, forging ahead and will never break". Daily post
This is over stated if ever there was one in my opinion.
The truth is that Nigeria is a zoo but unlike a well run zoo where the animals are well catered for in Nigeria the animals (the people)are left to their own devices. The government does not give a dam or cares about them. Nigeria is not like any other country, it is corrupt like no other. The leaders have no shame or self esteem (self respect?) ,they don’t care that the head of governments around the world mock at them and they are always seen as laughing stuff. Nigeria, the supporters of the government are themselves corrupt they are not thinkers this is why they are given the positions. They do not have pride in their country or in themselves. Their only motivation is how much can I steal because that’s what it is stealing, thieving while am in my current position. They say things like of course ,Nigeria is not where it should be. Authorities say that they are striving to ensure that the lives of all citizens get better. Who are they kidding the facts tell a different story. This is a country without amenities whatsoever. It calls itself giant of Africa but the truth is, it is just wishful thinking. The truth is that Nigeria is nowhere as a nation.
The country wants to be taken seriously, it wants to be one among equals and yet it has no electricity, no roads, no good hospitals or transport systems. Nigeria in fact has nothing to show for all the wealth it has created from the oil. When you arrive in other countries of the world, as wealthy as Nigeria, you can always tell how rich the country is by what you see as you enter the country but with Nigeria it it is the opposite, the country looks poor and uninviting. There is nothing to see, as we always say there is nothing to write home about.True thinkers, those who have pride in their country and themselves have all been sidelined. These honest men and women have no way of offering their integrity or services to their country. It is frustrating, sad and annoying the country is in such a state because of the greed of a few people.
